Third time's the charm! Cinema Sunday at the Charles Theater on Sunday, October 22rd. (9:45 am, bagels, coffee, you know the drill.)

This time the film, Princesas, is not being released in Baltimore. So if you want to see it, this is your only chance.

5.18.06

Today I'm appearing on The Marc Steiner Show at noon on 88.1 WYPR for a panel discussion about summer movies, with fellow film critics Mike Sragow (about as nice a guy as you can be) from the Baltimore Sun and Michael Speier (I'm sure he's also a lovely person) from Variety. As long as I get to talk about the X-men, I'll be happy.

I'm hosting another Cinema Sunday at the Charles Theater on Sunday, April 23rd.

Doors open at 9:45 for unlimited fresh bagels, cream cheese, coffee and chat. This week's film is Kinky Boots. Afterwards there's discussion, analysis, and more coffee. Should be fun. See you there.

2.22.06

I've been invited back for a bi-monthly slot (every second and fourth Friday) on WTMD to discuss film. Catch me on February 24th. You can listen live on the website, or I'll post mp3s as they become available.

Happy New Year. Here's my radio interview on WTMD, talking about Brokeback Mountain. (Because of the speed of the tape recorder, I sound a little chipmunk-y.) It's nice to be on the radio.

12.2.05

You're looking at PopMatters's newest columnist. I'm writing a montly column about classic film, beginning Dec. 12th. Yippee Cahiers!

Happy Thanksgiving. A new piece posted in Opium.
Also, of the first ten hits for "Violet Glaze" on Google, six refer to me. The rest are the usual pottery and bras.
Movin' on up . . .

Come join me when I host a Cinema Sunday at the Charles Theater on Sunday, September 18th.

If you've never been, here's what happens: Doors open at 9:45 for unlimited fresh bagels, cream cheese, good coffee and chat with like-minded film fanatics. Then at 10:30 a guest speaker/local critic/film buff (like me) introduces a new, unique film not yet in general release (yes, I know what film but it's a sur-priiiise . . . ) Afterwards there's discussion, analysis, and more coffee.

The Charles is located at 1711 North Charles Street in Baltimore, just a block and a half north of Penn Station.Tickets are $15, (cash only) although you can save considerably by getting a membership. See you there!

Opium Magazine has accepted one of my essays. 6 to 8 weeks, they said. Stay tuned.

You know what the world needs? More blogs. That's what I thought, too. Now you can read mine.
Thanks to Josh for hooking me up.

Good news! On September 18th, I'll be hosting a Cinema Sunday at the Charles Theater, the best movie theater in Baltimore (and possibly the world). Check out events for more details.

Had a fantastic lunch with historical novelist Lucia St. Clair Robson, an extraordinary woman who generously showered me with lots of wisdom and sushi. (Quickest way to my heart.) Be a dear and buy her latest book, won't you?

Lucia's longtime love was Brian Daley, the novelist behind the Han Solo books and NPR's radio adaptations of the Star Wars trilogy. I forgot to show her my childhood photos of me emulating the "Han Solo Smile."
